Here in Cherokee we have slim pickins for quality eateries. Though our local restaurants have their good days, and good specials to make up for the lull in between. Carey's Restaurant on South 2 nd St/Hi-way 59 has old town charm, polite staff in an extremely casual atmosphere. ( No uniforms for the waitresses ). They have good stick to your ribs Noon Specials. Danny's Restaurant on South 2 nd St/Hi-Way 59 has good BBQ Ribs. But the last time we were there, they under-estimated the demand of Ribs. And they ran out of them and couldn't fill everyone's order at our table of 8. So there definitely weren't any 2nds on the all you can eat Ribs. But they substituted prime ribs for us. I don't much care for prime rib, no matter who makes it. And Danny's prime rib that night tasted like Braunswager! So Danny's makes good BBQ Ribs, and lousy Prime rib. "The Gaust House" is a good Bar & Grill place to eat at. It has nice decor ( antiques and memorabilia from the community ) it's one of my favorite places to go to. Especially in the fall when they serve their "All you can eat Ribs" They haven't run out yet! If you like Chinese we have a nice place called "The little Panda" they have good menu items and an affordable Buffet! And Hot Mustard that will make you think Freddy Krueger is raking his sharp nails through your sinuses! I love good hot mustard, and their's is HOT! ( however I don't care for Spicy Hot Ethnic foods of other cultures ). The "Family Table" situated on North 2nd St/Hi-Way 59 has a good Sunday Brunch that starts at 9 am. They also have good specials, and great ice cream! And their Onion Rings are like none other. Very lightly breaded and even a small batch is more than one person can eat! We all have our Favorite eateries in our Local Communities. As we all tend to travel in wider circles it would be nice to know where the best places to eat are! I know in the Wright County area there must be some good places to eat. But I don't know where many of them are. I know the Goldfield Cheese Mart can have good treats to eat for a weary traveler. This is a frequent place for me to stop on my way up to the Twin Cities. I like their cheese curds, and bite size pieces of cheese in their sampler bags. In Eagle Grove I like to get the World's Best Hickory Smoked Black Pepper Beef Jerky at Lewright's Deli, they also have a lot of great sandwiches too. They are so friendly, when I go in there. They may not know me by name, but I assure you they know me when I walk into the Deli! I'm 6 ft 8 inches tall and weigh over 400 lbs.; it'd be hard to forget someone like me who comes in, and buys $100.00 worth of Jerky every time. Over in Hampton I went to "The Honk and Holler" which has good "50's" style atmosphere, and an eclectic blend of eats on their Menu. Now since this website claims wright County as their homeland, what other great places do you have to eat at?

Here in Wright Co. I think it's even slimmer pickins. I really don't eat out often, but the general places to go are fast food... Hardees or Subway (yuck & yuck) In Clarion there is Pizza Ranch, which is actually not to bad their chicken is great, and pizza is ok also (I'm just not much of a pizza person) then there is Snack Villiage, the food is pretty good, but the prices are a little high. There's also a couple new places over there that I haven't tried out 1's a pizza place and the other is a sandwhich (I think) shop. ? There's also a little mexican resturaunt on S.Main that I've heard lots of raves about but haven't tried them yet either. In Belmond there's a few places, There's a few small cafe's but I haven't been to any of them. And another Pizza Ranch (again their chicken is awesome) it's 1 of my 2 fav. food from there, the other being Blimpie's (but we found out Subway is buying them out.....yuck) But just outside of Belmond on highway 69 headed North is Cattleman's, it's not a very big place but it's probably one of the best steak houses in the area. And has a regular dining area and also a bar/ drink lounge (for smoking patrons) The prices are great and the food is top quality. I highly recommend it. Also apparently there is another mexican restaraunt open in Belmond that everyone is bragging about (I like mexican food, so I might just have to try it) then I'll update this. (In my town, the best food around is here at home, and if I'm not in the cooking mood, my hubby burns a mean burger LOL)

Thanks for the info! I like Mexican food too! But there are 2 kinds of Mexican food. Some of it is prepared and cooked in what looks to be authentic ways, but it lacks any real flavor. Then there is the American Version of Mexican food it looks good, and usually is a lot tastier than the other type. I don't care for spicy Mexican food. Not the really hot sweat producing type. Mild spicy is good enough for me. Next time in Clarion I'll have to look for that Mexican restaurant. And thanks for the heads up on The Snack Village, I always wondered about that place. We have been through Belmond for a change of scenery on our way back from Minn. I'll have to swing through there again next time I come back. Do you have any "Family Tables"in your area? I know Pocahontas, and Storm Lake do besides Cherokee. If you get a chance try their Onion Rings! On Cherokee's menu the Family Table has a Cherokee Burger it's like any other stacked cheese burger, except the last ingredient is a fried egg. I tried one once the egg didn't add anything to the stacked burger, couldn't even taste the egg. I was wondering if other towns sporting "Family Tables" had their own burger named after their town? And I wonder what they include in their burger?

Yes I did, I fell hook line and sinker into that one. SheK made some wicked tacos for us 1 night and instead of telling me the truth about what meat she was using she told me it was cow intestines. That sounds really gross but well honestly with mexican cooking its possible b/c they don't waste much meet. So dummy me went into the mexican store and asked for cow intestines for taco's. Needless to say SheK was roflao and I was 40 shades of red. Don't under any circumstances believe what she says when it comes to meet in tacos or you might be the next victim.

Billy and I went to a regional Bar and Grill in Marcus Iowa last night. The place is called "The Old Panhead". It's standard bar and grill food. Their appetizers seem to be less than standard. But their main meat dishes are good. They rave about their desserts. But if you order a meal off the menu, you won't have room for dessert! Would I go there again, "Yes!". They have good Charbroiled Meats. Billy said the Broasted Chicken was good. And I'd like to try some of their desserts like their Peanut Butter Pie, Pine Apple Upside Down Cake, or their Coconut Cream Pie not to mention others I can't remember. TT

Another place to go to in NW Iowa is the unique "Blue Mountain BBQ Bar & Grill" inj Orange City, Ia.. It's elegant with out be opressive. Jeans are OK to wear there. Though the interior bodes of rich Asian influenced decor. I can just invision Indian Jones sitting at one of these tables while checking out some Golden Skull he acquired from a tomb. It's a cool place. The down side is that the upper level is a semi-private supper club. ( Meaning everyone is charged on their bill, a $5.00 cover charge to be able to enter the area ), this is designed to keep the kids out of this area. So diners can have a quiet meaningful dinner, or a romantic interlude of wine and scrumptious desserts. The lower level doesn't require a cover charge, and it boasts great grilled & BBQ'd fare. It deffinitely worth checking out. But if you are as fat as I am, steer clear of the lower level. They only have boothes for seating. The Tables are fixed and stastionary. I could barely squeeze in, and after eating my meal I couldn't get out. I thought they would have to get the jaws of life to get me free. But I was able to poke and prod my fat gut in and around the table top to push and shove my way free from the table. But it damaged my dress shirt in the possess. I'm still licking my wounds, from that incident. LOL! But go ahead and check it out! The food is to die for, even if you die from embarrassment! TT

Billy, Jodi, and their friend Amanda and I all had a great time at "The Galley" in Hostein, Ia.. They serve great food, with a sea faring trend of selections! The atmosphere is similar to eating in a wharf restaurant on the east coast. The staff are chatty and set you at ease. The Owner is gracious and and eager to please his customers. If you don't like your meal, they will make it right and then some! The bar next door is in addition to the Galley or vice versa. It wasn't smoke filled, everyone was having a good time, and the had a moderate crowd. Again the bar is decorated like a coastal pub. This place is worth checking out! TT

I was told today that the "Old Panhead" in Marcus, Ia. has gone out of business, because their service to the customers was too slow! I just called the "Old Panhead". It rang twice, and then I got an answering machine. I guess it must have gone out of business. Though when Billy and I went there, they seemed to have a good crowd. But the service was slow. But that's OK, because "The Galley" in Holstein is my new favorite place to go! TT

Yesterday, Friday March 24th I was heading back to Cherokee from the Twin Cities, it was around 2pm when I stopped in Clarion, Ia. for a late lunch. I ate at "Basil's Italian Cafe", in Clarion. I had a nice shrimp pasta dish, but was enthralled by the list of intersting dishes they had in their menu. I intend on returning and trying a good assortment of their other dishes, especially their BBQ dishes, and their Shrimp Boil on Fri. & Sat.. I don't care how many trips I have to make to Clarion, or through Clarion, but I plan on returning till I've tried all their dishes that spiked my interest!
I liked this place, and their Staff!
Their address is: 223 Central Ave. West Clarion, Iowa. 50525
Ph # is: 515-602-6700 515-602-6702
