Mysti has asked me to give a report on what I know of the area of charles City known asiron hill and the railroad tracks by there so here it is, Im afraid its not what youd want to hear.
Regarding "iron hill", theres really not much I can tell about it but lots I can tell that is not in the area. First off, the stories on the internet in my opinion are totally false, the iron hill and orphan train stories just started popping up a few years ago and I think it was on theshadowlands.net/places/iowa.htm that the stories first appeared. As Ive stated, I grew up in the area just a couple blocks away and never heard anything about ghosts or anything, in my opinion, the stories started were because of us as kids here. We used to play arouind those railroad tracks and the iron slag hill (comprised of eftover metal and slag from the foundary when white farm built tractors here) stories of kids singing ring aroun d the rosey was likely us as we played that at dusk and into twilight. and the burned toys and ragdoll supposedly found? we used to goof around and burn stuff down in the wooded area near the tracks and we also ran around out there at nite playing hide and seek and sneaking up on each other to scare each other. Also as to an orphan train, Ive gone to the local library here and have gone through old newspapers on microfiche and can find nothing about orphan trains going through town nor of any trains wrecking or burning in that area of town, In my opinion, its nothing but a newly started urban legend. I dont know how or who started the stories of that area but can say with confidence that none of it has any validity whatsoever and like I said, its likely the local neighbor kids that have been heard or seen and mistaken for something that its not.
if you have any other questions about stories heard in that area, give me a hollar
