REMEMBER THESE IMPORTANT RULES....
"THE NEVER'S OF THE HUNT"
1. NEVER trespass, make sure you have permission to be in the area. You can do this by contacting the owner, caretaker or local law enforcement. If your not willing to ask permission for fear you'll be scoffed at then you should reconsider your reasons for being in this field.
2. NEVER go alone, there is safety in numbers and you never know what you will run into. Anytime your plans take you to "haunted" areas you may encounter real people whose intentions aren't good. Also for safety reasons if you are alone and get injured nobody is there to help you.
3. NEVER smoke, drink alcohol or use drugs either before or during an investigation. They can affect your ability to think clearly and interfere with your investigation. If you or another team member MUST have a cigarette, completely leave the area first. This is just common sense, use it.
4. NEVER wear strong frangrances, colognes perfumes ect. Often times during spirit activity there can be odors or unexplained smells. Wearing these items can disturb your's and others ability to percieve the other scents that may be present.
5. NEVER remove any items from the area you are investigating. Including and especially in cemeteries. The property should be treated the same as if it were your home, and the items therein should remain therein.
6. NEVER allow horseplay during an investigation, especially in cemeteries. Some of these locations are hundreds of years old and property or headstone's can be damaged by even the sightest and most innocent mishap. So always be careful.
7. NEVER enter an area that is unsafe. If the building or bridge, ect. is in disrepair or posted as condemned then stay out. If you enter these areas you take the risk of being injured or having another team member injured. If your unsure of the structural safety then stay out, safe is better than sorry.
"THE ALWAY'S OF THE HUNT"
1. ALWAYS make sure somebody other than yourself and your team members know Exactly where you are going to be, in case of an emergency. Just remember to be discreet, chose wisely on who you share your plans with. (sometimes to many knowing people can cause a scare just for fun at your expense.)
2. ALWAYS make a dry run into the area your planning to investigate during the day to get familiar with the area and to scout out areas that may be hard to spot and possibly cause injury at night while having limited visibility.
3. ALWAYS have proper identification with you and be ready to produce it if you are asked. Be respectful to Law Enforcement & Other's who are responsible for overseeing the areas you are in.
4. ALWAYS follow the rules set by Law Enforcement/ or Caretakers. If you have permission to be in an area for a set amount of time, be sure to stay within the agreed upon times and leave things as you found them. That way your chances of being allowed back increase.
5. ALWAYS follow posted rules of any area your in. If your investigation is indoors in historical buildings or dwellings please use caution when moving around in them and stay within the set boundries given to you by the owner/ caretaker.
6. ALWAYS be curtious, if a scheduled or planned investigation time has to be cancelled or postponed to a later time or date. Make sure you contact all parties involved to make them aware of these changes.
7. ALWAYS gather as much historical and background information as possible about your intended location of investigation, both before and after you investigate the area. That way you have more ways to confirm, and verify any findings you might have.
8. ALWAYS test you equipment a few times prior to starting your investigation. Make sure everything is operating properly so as not to learn later that it wasn't and all your data and information is worthless because of equipment errors.
9. ALWAYS know where all of your team members are and try to stay in groups at at least 2. This way if anything unexplained occures your not alone, you have somebody with you. And it is also just common sense to stay with at least 1 other person for safety reasons.
10. ALWAYS talk in plain clear voices, this is again common sense. If you are attempting to try and capture EVP, whispering or mumbling can cause verifying any anomolies that might be on your recordings to be confused or dismissed as other team members if you are whispering.
11. ALWAYS make sure you have plenty of light sources and bring extra batteries for flashlights ect. If you have a cell phone, bring it with you (if the option is available set it to vibrate mode instead of ring to avoid tape interuptions). There's no such thing as to safe and you never know when you may need a phone.
12. ALWAYS dress appropriate for weather conditions. If your cold then you aren't able to conventrate on what your doing, and this can cause you to be distracted and possibly allow events to go unnoticed. Even in summer months bring a jacket incase you should need it.
13. ALWAYS bring some sort of snacks and drinks with you so that they are available during breaks for team members. Also even under the best circumstances things can happen and if for some reason you are stranded in a location for the night, you will have at least have food and drinks.
14. ALWAYS leave the areas in the same condition you found them, Make sure you pick up all trash, food packages, soda containers, film wrappers ect. and place them in the appropriate trash containers. Treat the areas as you would like people to treat your home.
15. ALWAYS be responsible for yourself and for your team members. Make sure you stay in communication with the other members and if for any reason a member becomes sick ect. leave. There will be other times to investigate the area and everyone's safety should come first at all times.
11. ALWAYS be professional. Even if your a first time hunter/ investigator, whether your a small group of independent researchers or affiliated with another team. Your actions will reflect how your viewed. If you want to be taken seriously then act serious.
12. ALWAYS remember, although we all have our own teams/ groups ect. In general we are all scrutenized by the same the people and codes. Although you may feel you are only representing yourself, in the eyes of society you are actually respresenting ALL researcher's in the paranormal field. And any negative publicity, by either showing disrespect in cemeterys, private homes or trespassing on private property ect. comes back on us all.
