As a child growing up only three miles from the border of Old Mexico, I have experienced and participated in many of these. The women have a habit of using a pendulum to predict whether an expectant mom is having a boy or girl child, Santoria is prevalent there so there are many magical potions which are entirely acceptable and sought after, and the superstititions of this area abound.... making dowsing with copper rods commonplace before a person would THINK to buy property. In addition, my Godmother came from a family with gypsy background, so I grew up having my tea leaves read and my palms examined and was taught to do these as well. My Godfather was 100% Indian from Kokomo, Indiana (son of their medicine man)... he fervently believed in visions and symbols. So you might say that even though my parents were staunch Baptists and very non spiritualistic, that I was immersed in spiritualism. I do understand, however, that my mother's Aunt Sarah was very big on spiritualism, though. My aunt was big on reincarnation, so I did have a realization early on that there were other views and I was able to view them objectively. As a young kid, I even sat at a Ouja Board once... but do NOT recommend this to anyone... I won't touch one anymore. Now I join friends in table tipping, have channelled a few spirits which my spirit guide finds worthy and safe, and see visions and symbols on a regular basis.... Now, I can't imagine limiting my view to just what is seen, touched and physically felt.
